Frequently Asked Questions

What is Sophrology?

Sophrology is a mind-body practice that combines breathing techniques, relaxation, gentle movements, visualisation, and meditation to promote physical and emotional well-being.
It was developed by a neuropsychiatrist named Alfonso Caycedo in the 1960s.

It is an adaptable and flexible practice that can be done everywhere at any time when it’s needed.

How is Sophrology different from other relaxation techniques?

Sophrology is a unique practice that combines elements from various disciplines, such as yoga, mindfulness, phenomenology, autogenic relaxation technique, psychotherapy and hypnotherapy. However, it has its distinctive approach, methodology, and philosophy. Sophrology emphasises the connection between the mind, body, and spirit and aims to cultivate a sense of inner harmony, balance, and resilience.

What can I expect during a Sophrology session?

During a Sophrology session, you can expect to be guided through exercises to help you relax, focus, and become more aware of your body and mind. These exercises may include breathing techniques, gentle movements, visualisation, and meditation. The aim is to help you cultivate a state of deep relaxation and heightened awareness.

What should I not expect during a Sophrology session?

Sophrology is a complementary therapy and is not a substitute for medical or psychological treatment. It is not a quick fix or a one-size-fits-all solution. It requires time, effort, and commitment to achieve lasting results. Sophrology does not involve physical manipulation, invasive procedures, or prescription drugs.

How long is a Sophrology session?

A typical Sophrology session lasts between 45 minutes and one hour. However, the duration may vary depending on your needs and preferences.

It does not involve religious or spiritual practices or relies on suggestions or trance states to achieve results.

Do you use other techniques during the session?

Yes, in addition to sophrology, we incorporate elements of coaching, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) techniques, and a person-centred approach to offer a holistic approach to the client.
